Buoyed by the “success” of the 400th episode song I wrote over the summer of whatever year I recorded it, I decided to write a couple songs for Scary Movie Month. While I put the most work into a song we’ll get to later in the album (I know, another non-chronological tease), I have a special place in my heart for this B-side. It’s an ‘80s alt-style rocker written from the perspective of someone who runs into a friend on a foggy night and knows something’s not right but can’t quite put their finger on the fact that their pal has changed into a werewolf. I like this song a lot. I even play an acoustic version of it at my shows when the crowd seems open to lycanthropy.
lyrics
I know you
I want to
Know that you recognize me too
Your eyes hide behind
That mask you wear
Hidden under all that hair
The shadow cast by your reflection
Is pointed right in my direction
And those new bangs
Go nicely with your fangs
I never noticed them before
You've changed with the season
You've changed
And I've no reason to be afraid
But you've changed
Your tattered jean jacket
I last saw you wear
At a party in the square
You looked up at the harvest moon
Ran off into the night.
Didn't expect to see you quite so soon
You gave me such a fright
You've changed with the season
You've changed
And I've no reason to be afraid
But you've changed
Yeah you've changed
I know it's just a phase
But you've changed
