I wrote the main riff to this song while messing around with open chords. I quickly recorded the idea on my phone, set it down for a few months, then came back to realize I couldn't remember the chords. After some trial and error I finally (thankfully) found them again. Like a horror villain, a good song never stays dead. The lyrics mix abstract word pictures with a specific scary story I had in my head. If you also hear that story, great. If you come up with your own story to fit the words, even better.
lyrics
Beneath a sleepy seaside town
A crack appears
A glowing fissure overflows with molten tears
The thing that claws its way out of the rocks
A ragged beast
Ascends the hillside heading for the house
That faces east
Don’t think I can live without you
I know you’re the same
Hiding in the shadow’s all the rage
The clock turns over as a prelude to another day
A hulking form beside the garden path
Just melts away
Don't know what's out there, but
It’s filling me with fear and dread
Look out the window
Staring back at me
My floating head
Don’t think I can live without you
I know you’re the same
Hiding in the shadow’s all the rage
It's all the rage
It's all the rage
It's all the rage
